About the Cowl Anti Ice Valve
A cowl anti-ice valve controls the flow of hot engine bleed air into the engine inlet cowl lip to prevent ice accretion that could disrupt inlet airflow or shed into the engine. Located in the anti-ice ducting within the pneumatic and air management system, it opens on command to supply heating air and closes to conserve bleed and protect structure from overheat. The valve is commonly a pressure-regulated butterfly element driven pneumatically with solenoid control. Repair and overhaul are driven by butterfly and seat erosion and leakage from continuous high-temperature exposure, solenoid and actuator failure, diaphragm and spring degradation causing regulation drift, shaft bearing wear and binding, contamination-induced sticking, and seal deterioration that leads to leakage or failure to open or close on demand.
