About the Flow Control and Shutoff Valve
A flow control and shutoff valve is a pneumatic valve in the air management system that both modulates bleed or conditioned airflow to a scheduled rate and provides positive shutoff of the line. Combining a regulating element with an actuator and butterfly or poppet, it controls air delivery to packs or distribution while limiting flow to protect downstream components, then closes fully on command. Operating in a hot, pressurized, vibratory environment, it is prone to butterfly shaft and bearing wear, seat and seal erosion causing internal leakage, contamination and corrosion that cause sticking or sluggish response, worn flow-sensing or torque-motor elements, and actuator diaphragm fatigue. These conditions drive flow calibration, leak and functional testing, seal and bearing replacement, and overhaul to restore scheduled performance.
