About the Inlet Anti Ice Valve
An inlet anti-ice valve controls the flow of hot engine bleed air to an engine or nacelle inlet to prevent ice accretion on critical surfaces, operating within the pneumatic air-management system as part of the anti-ice-valve capability. When commanded, it opens to admit heated air that warms the protected structure and closes to conserve bleed air when protection is not required, typically using a pneumatically actuated butterfly element with solenoid control and pressure regulation. Operating in a hot, cyclic duty environment, it experiences seat and disc erosion, butterfly-shaft bushing wear, actuator diaphragm and seal hardening, and spring fatigue. Contamination, carbon buildup, and corrosion commonly cause sticking, internal leakage, or sluggish response. These drive overhaul, seal and bushing replacement, recalibration, and functional leakage and response testing.
