A solenoid shutoff valve is an electrically actuated valve in the pneumatic and air-management system that opens or closes a flow path on command when its solenoid is energized or de-energized, providing fast, remote on/off control or isolation. The electromagnetic coil drives a plunger or pilots a larger main element, with a spring returning the valve to its default state on loss of power. Its primary function is commanded, repeatable shutoff and flow control. Common degradation includes coil insulation breakdown or open windings, plunger and seat wear, seal and O-ring hardening, spring fatigue, and contamination or coking that causes sticking, internal leakage, or failure to shift.
