About the Wing Anti Ice Valve
A wing anti-ice valve controls the flow of hot engine bleed air to the wing leading-edge anti-ice system, supplying heated air that prevents ice accumulation on the slats and leading edges during flight in icing conditions. Typically a pressure-regulating and shutoff butterfly valve with pneumatic or electropneumatic actuation, it opens on command to admit bleed air and regulates flow to protect the ducting from overpressure and overtemperature. Within the air management system it gates a high-temperature, high-pressure supply. Repair and overhaul are driven by butterfly and bearing wear, actuator diaphragm and spring fatigue, solenoid degradation, thermal distortion of the body, seat and seal erosion causing leakage, and contamination-induced sticking that impair anti-ice protection and reliable shutoff.
