Component Overview

The butterfly shutoff valve is an isolation device that uses a disc rotating on a central shaft to open or close an air duct, offering compact, lightweight flow control in pneumatic and air management systems. When the disc aligns with the flow it presents low resistance, and when rotated perpendicular it seats against the bore to block flow, actuated electrically, pneumatically, or by solenoid pilot. Its simple geometry suits high-temperature bleed and conditioned-air service. Typical wear includes disc and seat seal degradation causing internal leakage, shaft and bearing wear that introduces play and binding, actuator and linkage deterioration, corrosion and erosion of the bore and disc, and contamination affecting sealing. Position, leakage, and torque checks guide bearing and seal replacement and actuator overhaul.
