Component Overview

A horizontal stabilizer de-ice sequence timer is an electromechanical or solid-state control device within the actuation and ice-protection circuit that governs the timed inflation and deflation cycle of pneumatic de-ice boots on the horizontal stabilizer leading edge. It receives system power and, on command, steps distributor solenoids or ejector flow valves through a fixed sequence so boot segments inflate and shed accreted ice in the correct order, then dwell before the next cycle. Functionally it sets cycle duration and timing intervals critical to effective ice removal. Typical degradation includes drift in timing accuracy from aged capacitors or worn cam contacts, relay contact pitting, solder-joint fatigue, and intermittent output from thermal cycling and vibration, all of which drive bench test, recalibration, or overhaul to restore correct sequence timing.
