Component Overview

A three-way solenoid valve is an electrically actuated control valve with three ports that directs or switches pneumatic flow between two paths, commonly used to route control or pilot air that operates larger pneumatic valves and actuators within the air management system. Energizing the solenoid shifts an internal spool or poppet to connect or vent the appropriate ports. Operating with frequent electrical cycling and pressurized air, its dominant degradation modes are coil burnout or insulation breakdown, seat and seal wear, spool sticking from contamination, spring fatigue, and internal leakage between ports. Inspection commonly reveals failure to shift, slow response, cross-port leakage, and out-of-tolerance coil resistance. Overhaul restores the coil, seals, seats, and spool action to ensure reliable switching, leak-tight porting, and consistent electrical actuation.
