Component Overview

A bi-level flow control and shutoff valve manages bleed or conditioned airflow at two distinct controlled flow levels and provides positive shutoff within the pneumatic and air management system. By selecting between high and low flow schedules, it matches air delivery to varying demand, such as differing pack or cabin requirements across flight phases, while isolating the supply when closed. The valve commonly uses a pneumatically actuated butterfly with solenoid logic establishing the two flow positions. Repair and overhaul are driven by butterfly and seat wear and leakage, solenoid malfunction affecting level selection, actuator and diaphragm degradation, spring fatigue altering flow setpoints, contamination and coking causing sticking between positions, bearing wear and binding, and seal deterioration that produces inaccurate flow control or incomplete shutoff.
