Component Overview

A manifold temperature sensor rated to elevated bleed-air temperatures monitors the temperature of hot air in a pneumatic manifold or duct, providing feedback to controllers that regulate bleed-air temperature, anti-ice flow, or overheat protection within the air management system. It is typically a resistance-based element such as an RTD or thermistor housed in a probe that inserts into the airflow and connects through sealed terminals. Because it is continuously exposed to high temperature, vibration, and thermal cycling, its principal degradation modes are element drift and resistance error, open or shorted windings, insulation breakdown, seal leakage, and connector corrosion or contamination. Inspection commonly reveals out-of-tolerance resistance, erratic readings, and physical or terminal damage. Overhaul or repair restores element accuracy, insulation integrity, and sealing to recover reliable temperature indication.
