Component Overview

A two-inch diameter electric shutoff valve is an electrically actuated on/off valve that opens or closes a pneumatic duct of roughly two-inch line size on command, isolating bleed, anti-ice, or air-conditioning flow. In air management it typically uses a butterfly disc driven by an electric motor or solenoid-and-torque-motor actuator, with limit switches or position feedback confirming full-open and full-closed states. Because actuation is electric while the medium is hot, contaminated bleed air, the dominant degradation modes are motor and gear-train wear, solenoid coil and contact deterioration, butterfly shaft-bearing wear and disc scoring, seal hardening, and carbon fouling that causes sluggish travel, incomplete sealing, or failure to actuate. Symptoms include leakage past the closed disc, position-feedback faults, and high actuation current, driving actuator overhaul, reseal, and open/close and leakage testing.
