Component Overview

A cowl anti-ice pressure-regulating shutoff valve, or PRSOV, controls bleed air to the engine cowl anti-ice system, preventing ice formation on the engine inlet lip and cowl leading edge. It combines pressure regulation and positive shutoff in one body, typically a pneumatically actuated butterfly valve with an integral regulator and solenoid control that opens on demand and meters downstream pressure to protect the anti-ice ducting. Within the air management system it gates a high-temperature, high-pressure supply to a flight-critical ice-protection function. Repair and overhaul are driven by butterfly and bushing wear, actuator diaphragm and spring fatigue, regulator drift, solenoid degradation, seat and seal erosion causing leakage, thermal distortion, and contamination-induced sticking that compromise regulation and reliable closure.
