Component Overview

A waste water discharge sensor assembly monitors temperature, and sometimes flow or presence, at the aircraft potable and waste water drain or discharge masts to support drain-mast heating and freeze protection. Within the sensors and switches domain, it provides feedback that keeps drain lines and discharge ports above freezing so waste water exits cleanly without ice blockage that could cause backup or external ice accretion. The assembly typically integrates a temperature-sensing element and wiring within a mounted housing at the discharge point. Repair and overhaul are driven by sensing-element drift and open- or short-circuit failure, moisture intrusion and corrosion in the housing and connector, thermal and mechanical fatigue from repeated freeze-thaw cycling, contamination fouling, seal degradation, and wiring and terminal deterioration that produce inaccurate readings or loss of heater control feedback.
