Component Overview

A 2½-inch shutoff valve is a pneumatic line valve, typically a butterfly type, used in the air management system to start, stop, or isolate bleed or conditioned airflow in ducting of that nominal diameter. A disc rotated by a pneumatic or electric actuator opens or closes the flow path on command, controlling air delivery to packs, anti-ice, or distribution circuits and providing isolation for safety and maintenance. Operating in hot, high-pressure, vibratory service, it commonly suffers butterfly disc and shaft bearing wear, seal and seat erosion or leakage, actuator diaphragm or solenoid degradation, corrosion and contamination causing sticking, and bushing wear producing position error. These conditions drive functional and leak testing, seal and bearing replacement, actuator overhaul, and full bench rebuild.
