Component Overview

A fuel shutoff valve provides positive isolation of fuel flow to the engine or a fuel circuit, serving as a critical safety device that stops fuel delivery on command for normal shutdown or emergency conditions. It is typically a motor-operated or solenoid-actuated ball or gate valve that seals tightly against fuel pressure when closed and opens fully to minimize flow restriction. Operating in a wetted fuel environment with intermittent actuation, its dominant degradation modes are seat and seal wear causing leakage, actuator or motor wear, sticking or binding from contamination or varnish, corrosion, and slow or incomplete travel. Inspection commonly reveals internal leakage past the closed valve, sluggish actuation, and out-of-tolerance operating time. Overhaul restores seats, seals, actuation, and travel to ensure leak-tight closure and full, reliable opening.
