About the Condenser Heat Exchanger
A condenser/heat exchanger is a heat-transfer component in the air cycle pack that cools moisture-laden process air below its dew point so that entrained water vapor condenses into droplets for downstream extraction, while also serving a general air-to-air cooling function. By rejecting heat to a cooler air stream across a finned core, it improves water removal and conditioning efficiency before air reaches the cabin. Operating in a wet, thermally cycled, vibratory environment, it is susceptible to corrosion and pitting from condensate, fatigue and thermal-stress cracking at fins, headers, and braze joints, internal cross-leakage between passages, fin fouling or erosion reducing effectiveness, and blocked drain paths. These conditions drive leak and pressure testing, core repair, cleaning, and overhaul.
