About Reheaters & Condensers in Aircraft Systems
Reheaters and condensers are the heat-transfer components at the heart of a high-pressure water-separation loop in modern air-conditioning packs, where they work together to wring moisture out of the conditioned air before it enters the air cycle machine's cold path. In this circuit the reheater first warms the air, the condenser then cools it so that entrained water vapor condenses into droplets that a downstream water extractor can remove, and the reheater recovers some of that heat. Units in this class appear under nomenclatures such as Reheater, Condenser, Reheater Condenser, Reheater/Heat Exchanger, Condenser/Heat Exchanger, and combined Condenser/Water Extractor assemblies.
Like other pack heat exchangers, these units are brazed plate-fin or tube-and-fin cores in aluminum or stainless-steel alloys, often packaged as an integrated reheater-condenser module. Constant exposure to condensing moisture makes them particularly susceptible to corrosion and internal fouling, while the thermal cycling inherent to pack operation drives fatigue cracking at braze joints and headers. The consequences are internal and external leakage, degraded water-extraction and cooling performance, and elevated pressure drop that upsets pack operation and can allow moisture to carry over into the distribution system. Restoring these units calls for specialized cleaning, leak isolation, and core repair by a qualified repair station to recover what is a costly and tightly integrated assembly.
Our Reheaters & Condensers Repair Process
QTC overhauls reheaters and condensers starting with incoming inspection and configuration review, followed by careful cleaning of the core to remove corrosion, fouling, and residue that accumulate in the moisture-laden environment of the water-separation loop. The cleaned unit is then inspected visually and dimensionally and evaluated with non-destructive techniques to locate cracks, blocked passages, and braze-joint defects across both the reheater and condenser circuits.
Confirmed leaks and damaged fins, tubes, and headers are repaired using methods appropriate to the brazed core construction, and any restricted passages are cleared to restore airflow, condensing, and heat-recovery performance. The unit is then leak- and pressure-tested on its applicable circuits and functionally verified against specification to confirm integrity and thermal performance before release. Once all acceptance criteria are satisfied, QTC completes the documentation and returns the reheater or condenser to service with airworthiness certification under its Part 145 approvals.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does QTC repair reheaters and condensers?
Yes. QTC overhauls reheaters, condensers, and integrated reheater-condenser assemblies to serviceable condition under our FAA & EASA Part 145 approvals.
What types of reheaters and condensers does QTC service?
We support reheaters, condensers, combined reheater/heat exchanger and condenser/heat exchanger units, and condenser/water-extractor assemblies. For a unit not listed here, send us the part number and we can confirm capability.
Which aircraft reheaters and condensers can QTC support?
Our experience covers units fitted to platforms from makes such as Airbus, Bombardier, Boeing, and Dornier. Because capability is part-number based rather than airframe based, we recommend contacting us with specifics to verify coverage.
How long does a reheater or condenser overhaul take?
Turnaround depends on the unit's condition and the repair scope identified at inspection, so we establish it once the unit is evaluated. Contact QTC with your part number for an estimate.
