About the Precooler (LH)

A left-hand precooler is an air-to-air heat exchanger installed in the engine nacelle or pylon to cool high-temperature engine bleed air before it enters the pneumatic and air management system. Fan-stream or ambient air passes over a finned core while hot bleed air flows through it, lowering bleed temperature to protect downstream ducting, valves, and air conditioning packs and to satisfy thermal limits. As a core located in a hot, vibratory environment, it is prone to fatigue and thermal-cycling cracks at fins, headers, and braze joints, internal and external corrosion, fin erosion and fouling that reduce thermal efficiency, and external or core-to-core leakage. These conditions drive pressure and leak testing, core repair, re-coring, and overhaul to restore cooling performance.

QTC repairs and overhauls precooler (lh) components to the original manufacturer's specifications under our FAA and EASA Part 145 approvals. Our engineers — including former OEM heat transfer specialists — perform teardown, inspection, cleaning, component replacement, functional and leak testing, and certification, and develop repairs for rejected and beyond-economic-repair (BER) hardware.
