About the Precooler Thru Valve Temperature Control
A precooler thru-valve for temperature control is a pneumatic valve in the air-management system that regulates flow through or around the engine bleed precooler to govern the temperature of bleed air delivered downstream. By modulating cooling-air or bleed-air flow relative to a temperature reference, it holds precooled bleed within limits to protect ducting and conditioning equipment. Its primary function is closed-loop temperature regulation at the precooler. Operating in a hot, high-pressure, cyclic environment, it is prone to butterfly or poppet shaft and bushing wear, seat and seal erosion, actuator diaphragm or spring fatigue, thermal-sensor or capsule drift, and contamination that causes sticking, leakage, or temperature overshoot. Repair and overhaul rebuild the sealing and actuation elements, recalibrate the temperature control, and verify regulation accuracy, leakage, and stroke.
