About the Reheater Heat Exchanger
A reheater/heat exchanger is a combined heat transfer element in the air cycle condensing loop that reheats cold turbine-discharge air while pre-conditioning warm, moisture-laden air upstream of the condenser and water extractor. By recovering heat between the two streams it improves water separation efficiency and prevents downstream icing, raising overall pack performance. Constructed as a compact brazed plate-fin core operating with significant moisture exposure, it sits at a thermally and corrosively demanding point in the system. Repair and overhaul are driven by internal corrosion from condensed water, core fouling, fin erosion, braze-joint cracking, thermal-fatigue damage, and cross-stream leakage. Restoration typically requires leak testing, core cleaning, repair of fractured fins and headers, and verification of thermal effectiveness.
