Component Overview

A pressure reducing and shutoff valve regulates high-pressure bleed air down to a controlled downstream pressure while providing positive shutoff of the supply when commanded, serving as a pressure-management and isolation device in the pneumatic system. It typically combines a spring-loaded regulating element, a pilot or solenoid control, and a butterfly or poppet shutoff, balancing reference pressures to hold the outlet within limits. Subjected to high temperature, pressure cycling, and contamination, its principal degradation modes are seat and seal erosion, diaphragm fatigue, sticking actuators, regulation drift, and internal or external leakage past the shutoff. Inspection commonly reveals pressure regulation outside tolerance, slow or incomplete closure, and worn seats. Overhaul restores seats, seals, springs, and actuation to recover accurate pressure setpoint and leak-free shutoff performance.
