Component Overview

A valve and actuator assembly is an integrated pneumatic unit in the air management system combining a flow-control or shutoff valve element with its dedicated actuator, which positions the valve in response to pneumatic, electric, or solenoid command signals. The valve body controls air delivery or isolation while the actuator provides the motive force and position scheduling, together regulating or shutting off airflow in the bleed or conditioning circuit. Operating in hot, pressurized, vibratory conditions, common degradation includes actuator diaphragm or piston seal fatigue and leakage, solenoid coil or torque-motor degradation, butterfly shaft and bearing wear, seat and seal erosion causing internal leakage, and contamination or corrosion causing sticking and position error. These conditions drive functional, leak, and response testing, seal replacement, and overhaul.
