Component Overview

An air check valve is a one-way flow-control device in the pneumatic and air-management system that permits airflow in a single direction and prevents reverse flow that could backfeed bleed sources, pressurize the wrong manifold, or disturb downstream conditioning. It commonly uses a spring-loaded flapper, poppet, or split-disc element that opens with forward pressure and seats to block reverse flow. Its primary function is directional isolation and protection of upstream and downstream pneumatic components. Operating in hot, cyclic bleed-air conditions, it is subject to seat erosion and wear, spring fatigue or relaxation, hinge and stop wear, thermal distortion, and contamination or coking that causes leakage, sticking, or chatter. Repair and overhaul restore sealing surfaces, replace springs and worn elements, and verify cracking pressure, leakage, and reliable reseating.
