Component Overview

A vaneaxial fan assembly is a motor-driven axial-flow fan used in the air cycle and air distribution system to move conditioned or cooling air through ducting, avionics bays, or recirculation paths. Air enters axially and is accelerated by a bladed rotor, with downstream stator vanes straightening the swirl to recover pressure and improve flow efficiency. Its primary function is to provide reliable forced airflow for cooling or ventilation where ram or pack air alone is insufficient. Common failure modes include bearing wear and increased vibration, motor winding insulation breakdown, brush wear in commutated designs, rotor imbalance from blade erosion or contamination, and degraded airflow output. These conditions, along with overheating and noise, typically drive bearing replacement, rebalancing, and electrical overhaul.
